Two-tone mermaid cushion review!

These cushions have been doing the rounds in the special needs groups the past few months so you have likely seen them.

We had this cushion delivered yesterday and Edwin just loves it! I brought the full sized cushion and also a mini sensory patch. Both are from a etsy shop/Facebook page.

This company is called the comfy cushion company. They are a pretty small company who sell handmade items.
You can find there Facebook page here.

https://www.facebook.com/Thecomfycushionco/?ref=ts&fref=ts

So now for our review…

When I first seen these I thought they looked amazing but at the same time I thought it would be scratchy and painful to touch.

So last week I seen them again on the comfy cushion company Facebook page. I decided I would buy a cushion and see what it was like for a review. I have been finding new and small company’s products to review.

The cushions come in a range of colours but they only have the one size from this company.

The back of the cushion is plain black and soft to the touch so if you wanted to use it as cushion you could just turn it over and use the back.

The feel of the cushion is pretty hard to describe. It looks like it would be very scratchy like having sequins on a dress or clothing is. But it’s the opposite it’s lovely and soft very textile and easy to use.

To use the cushion all you have to do is run your hands either up or down the sequins to move them either up or down changing the colour of ten cushion in the process and giving a textile sensory reward.

At the same time you also get a visual sensory reward seeing the colour of the sequins change from teal to black.

The cost of the cushion was £12 but at the same time the company’s owner told me about there sensor patches so I added one to our order. The patches cost £5 each and we choose the green and black patch.

The patches are smaller then the cushions and flat. They have sequins on one side and a soft fleece like feeling fabric on the back. The patch works the same way as the cushion but is small enough to fit in your pocket. Would make a very good fidget toy as while it’s small it’s still a good size to play with and gives the same feel as the cushion without the bulky size.

Both items are very well made and Edwin loves the cushion he likes the patch too but prefers the cushion.

I would recommend both product we have reviewed here and would also recommend the company’s etsy stop I paid by PayPal and deliver took a few days witch was pretty fast. Both items come well packaged within the same package with a invoice attached.

This is the end of our review but I will add I will be buying two more one for myself and one or my mother for Mother’s Day as she also wants one!

eBay tuff tray and stand review!

Today we are making a review for the tuff tray and stand we brought from eBay.

We have the black stand witch is standard and a pink tuff spot tray.

you can find the trays using this direct link.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-Plastic-Child-Kid-Party-Play-Tuff-Spot-MIXING-TRAY-Toy-Sand-Pit-Stand-Fun-/401032034933?var=&hash=item5d5f5f3a75:m:mJNKu9C2yFYcSv1AG4SgbFA

The trays come in a load of colours but Edwin picked out the pink tray. For some reason the black trays are a little cheaper then the coloured trays.

We ended up paying £45 for the tray and stand together but the prices have come down since we brought ours.

Delivery on the tray and stand was very good. Fast delivery and arrived in two boxes. One large box for the tray and a smaller box with the Stand flat packed inside.

We used a foil blanket and some tape here to make a cheap shiny tuff tray.

The sand is adjustable it has three settings. Low/mid/high we normally use the lower setting to make it easier for Edwin to reach.

we used the highest setting here to build our tuff spot tray dark den. Witch was just a black out curtain over the stand with the tray placed on top.

The tuff they its self is very large. That would be something to think about before buying. The sand you can take fully apart but we just unhook one place and fold it up.

We never got any instructions on how to put the stand together. But I kind of just worked it out seemed impossible at first. Then I started to see the right shape and kept going until it was finished the stand should be the same shape as the tray.

to fold the Stand down just unpop one of the pop studs and unhook the poles. This just brakes the loop. Once you have unhooked two parts unpop the rest of the popper studs holding it in place. This time you don’t have to unhook the pools just unpop so you can then start to fold the poles in to make it flatter and easier to store.

Once you have the stand up all you have to do is place the tray on top and your done. It can be really hard work getting the stand up and down so if you can leave it up somewhere it’s much easier.

i hope this has been helpful to anyone wondering about the eBay trays as Ino when I brought the price compeard to educational websites seems too good to be true. I would recommend it Edwin loves it but we don’t use the stand as much as the tray on the floor.

for people wanting sizes for use with wheel chairs I’ve taken two photos not very good ones but the stand is 16″ across in the gaps and 24″ on the highest setting.

Across 16″.

At the top setting it’s 24″ tall.

Learning recourses helping hands review!

Learning recourses helping hands are fine motor skills tools. The physical benefits of playgrounds include improving fine and gross motor skills. At the same time as developing motor skills your child or children are building up muscle and muscle memory. Our review is going to be based on how Edwin likes them and what we have used them for.

If you have been following our Facebook group for a while you will know we use these tools a lot in our trays and activities. This is our coloured pasta tray. How to colour rice and pasta in tutorials.

We normal,y mix our helping hands tools with other tools and scoops for more range. Edwin loves to fill up bowls dn cup and tip and pour from one container to another.

While he haven’t fully mastered all the tools just yet he really enjoys the handy scoopers squeeze tweezers and twisty droppers witch you can buy in larger packs on the own. We have brought both larger packs and the handy helper packs.

The only problem we have had with these is somtimes the handy scoopers heads fall off and one or two has been know to snap and not be able to go back on. But as Edwin loves them so much we have just brought replacements in larger packs of fur from Amazon.

The cheapest place to buy the handy helpers pack is Amazon but eBay and also some educational website stock them. They are good value for money in this smaller pack and are very good for fine motor training. As well as adding extra fun to your sensory trays and boxes. I would recommend them as we use them a lot apart from the handy scoopers problem they are perfect for special needs children.

you can find them on Amazon here using this direct link.

J & E learning peg dolls review!

So autum last year I come across this amazing Facebook page! J & E learning they make handmade items for children. They have so much good stuff on offer it was a little overwhelming at first. Plus very exciting!

The first time I brought from the page we brought a set of hand made peg people in a Halloween theme. They are amazing! So well made and have stood the test of time with Edwin even taking one to school in his pocket one day.

we used our Halloween peg people for many Halloween trays but this tray was Edwin fav by far!

So after Halloween was over Edwin continued to play with the Halloween theme people and still dose. But then he come to me and asked for more people. I instantly tought of J & E learning. I contacted them via there Facebook page and asked about custom orders. They where so helpful once I had paid for the dolls. “Number people, boys and girls, mixed skin tones” to be exsact on what Edwin asked for they started working on them.

at the same time I was ordering his number people he noticed some number lady bugs on the J & E Facebook page. So we had to add a set to our order of course!

I could go on about these so much Edwin loves them that much. They are very well made and hand painted with love and care. Good quality wood and paints are used on each and every single peg person. Plus the varnish used is non toxic and has held up well from being played with trown around and left on the floor.

I would highly recommend these peg people and lady bugs they are a very lovely edition to our sensory play actives and even used as leaning aides for math activities.

We are currently waiting on a easter set!

Sensory visions line lite mirror review!

Today I’m faintly getting around to doing a review on our sensory visions line lite mirror! Sensory visions is a small company that handmakes and suppliers sensory toys and equipment for special needs family’s.

i think we paid £75 for the mirror well over a year ago. The mirro has been long lasting and is still in perfect shape.

it has six bubbles and multiple neon colours tubes and lines of the line lite witch is sold on special needs websites and reacts brightly under uv light.

the mirror is backed on to wood and come with all the walk fixing. It was very easy to put up and is very secure. Edwin has pulled and pushed on it a lot and it’s still in perfect condidition.

Would hghly recommend this mirror and se sir vususons as a company.

sensory visions also hold the odd raffle to help special needs family’s. Giving them a chance to win toys and equipment they would other wise not be able to afford.

You can find them on Facebook and there website link here.

ROMPA LED Sensory Room Projector review

In this review we will explore everything about the ROMPA LED Sensory Room Projector.

Disclaimer: Rompa sent our son this ROMPA LED Sensory Room Projector so we can review it.

ROMPA sent this projector out for review, we have had an older model for the past few years, which has never let us down, but it’s nice to be able to test the newest model as it gives us a chance to compare.

Over the past few weeks we have had a privilege to test this projector out. Our son loves effect wheel projectors. He lays down on the floor for minutes at a time and watches the picture go by, it’s one of the only times he stays still!

Compared to the old model it is much brighter, the lens is sharper, it’s quite a bit quieter, much smaller and lighter and the actual unit runs much much cooler.

dsc08775-2

The projector is wall mountable, ceiling mountable, or you could just stand it up on a flat surface like we do.

ROMPA’s projector is made out of very hard sturdy metal, so this will definitely stand the test of time.

As this projector runs on LED’s it will have a much longer lifespan than the older style bulb projectors.

It uses 6″ diameter effect wheels, ROMPA have a large selection of these on their website, just slot them onto the rotator pin and watch them turn.

The projector is mains operated and there is a switch at the back.

You can turn the lens left or right to focus the picture to make it sharper.

If you have two rotators you will be able to use two effect wheels at the same time. Our son sometimes like to look at a scene effect wheel with a lava lamp one over it.

It is easy to set up and requires minimal maintenance. Just put the effect wheel on, plug it in, turn it on, and that’s it.

Here is a video, of three effect wheels on the projector, they work best on flat white surfaces, we did this video pointing the projector at a projector hoop.

Recommending a projector for children, this passage highlights how it can aid their visual sense and provide predictability. The effect wheel projectors are especially useful, as children often have their own preferred wheel. The writer’s son loves the city moon wheel with its big creepy moon face. The ROMPA LED Sensory Room Projector is an excellent option, but it may be pricey and that’s why people look into ProjectorsLand.com to know more about other similar models before proceeding to buy the projector. The writer praises the excellent quality of ROMPA equipment and customer service and indicates they will keep buying as long as this continues.

ROMPA Wi Fi LED Cube review

In this review we will explore everything about the ROMPA Wi Fi LED Cube.

Disclaimer: Rompa sent our son this Wi Fi LED Cube so we can review it.

Recently we have caught the attention of ROMPA as they follow both our website and facebook group, they are aware that many of the people in our facebook group also love ROMPA sensory equipment, they decided to send us the ROMPA Wi Fi LED Cube for our son to play with and for us to review.

We’ve given it a good few weeks to really test it and our son has played with it everyday so far. It has passed all of the Edwin tests (sliding it around, throwing it around, easy to turn off and on by himself, being drooled on, using it as a food table etc). When things survive they Edwin tests they are definitely keepers!

DSC01395

The measurements are 40 x 40 x 40 cm, not too big and not too small, it weights around 5kg, light enough for our son to push it around the house to wherever he wants to use it.

It’s made out of hard plastic with a nice grainy feel to it so its easy to grip, the plastic is very sturdy, our son stacks thing on it, climbs on it, throws it about and sometimes eats off of it. ROMPA tends to make very strong sensory equipment that lasts years so we aren’t surprised at how much abuse this cube can put up with, and that’s a VERY good thing as you don’t want to constantly be replacing everything all the time.

DSC01397

The plastic makes for a brilliant diffuser of light, colours are even all over the cube, you cant see a source or anything, it just looks like the cube is glowing all over, which is great!

Soon after the cube arrived our son came up with a brilliant idea, he started putting his lightbox toys on top and watching the light come through them, what a little genius! This cube makes for a great light box as shown here:

DSC01399

The cube has a big red button on the bottom, push once to turn on, and once to turn off, our son can do it even though he has dexterity problems.

The cube has an internal rechargeable battery, battery seems to last forever, since it arrived about two months ago we’ve only charged it twice, but have used it at the end of the day every day!

The colours are very vivid and bright, perfect for children with special needs to help visual processing and colour recognition.

Speaking of colours, the wifi cube changes to many different colours, But you can change the colours yourself by using a wifi controller, we use this one. The switches work with all our WIFI enabled ROMPA equipment. You can read our review of the ROMPA Deluxe 8 Colour Wirefree Controller here.

You dont need to set anything up, just turn the cube on with the big button, press any button on the WIFI controller and the lights change colour, or you can just leave it go through its colour cycle.

Here is a video of the Wifi cubes colour cycle then the wifi controller changing the colours of the cube wirelessly:

Everything can be changed to the same colour at the same time as long as its compatible with ROMPA’s wifi controller, as can be seen in this video:

You can even control everything with the ROMPA Talking WIFI cube as seen in this video (our son did the names of the colour himself!):

If you have the money, I highly recommend this WIFI LED Cube. Our son has been so happy with his ROMPA equipment, as long as ROMPA keep pumping out quality equipment and keep up their fantastic customer service, I’ll keep buying.

ROMPA wifi talking cube review

In this review we will go over the details and our thoughts on the ROMPA wifi talking cube.

After buying the awesome ROMPA Deluxe 8 Colour Wirefree Controller and seeing how wonderful it works with our son’s ROMPA equipment we decided to save up for the ROMPA wifi talking cube as it looked even more fun!

We were not disappointed, this talking cube is so much fun, you can record your own voice on the recorder unit so that when you flip the cube, the lights of the other ROMPA equipment change colour and your voice shouts out whatever you’ve recorded to that colour. You don’t always have to stick with colours though, our son loves to record “BUM! POOP! ELBOW!” instead of colours ….. naughty boy!

Here are a few pictures of the cube:

DSC01213

DSC01212

DSC01214

As you can see the cube has pockets on the side so your child can put coloured items in the sides to correspond with the colours on the cube, our son like to put coloured  drawings on paper, coloured feathers and some of his coloured lightbox numbers and letters in the pockets, this helps with his colour recognition.

To set it up you need to plug the speaker unit into the wall and turn it on, then opening the cubevia a big zip under the flap, opening the gyroscope unit, putting in 9V a battery and that it, close the cube and and start throwing it around! Whichever colour is on the top of the cube when it lands, the lights change to that colour.

This is a picture of the speaker unit:

DSC01216

It has a record button that you can hold for a few second then the red light comes on and you can record your voice. the knob controls the volume, you can push it in the turn the power on and off.

It works perfectly and the zip is too hard for our son to open by himself, which is great, because he tries to eat foam when foam is exposed.

You need to make sure that when you put the gyroscope unit back into the cube that its the correct way up and switched on. The correct way has stickers like G and R and B so you can line it up with the colours you see on the outside.

This is a picture of the inside of the cube and the gyroscope unit:

DSC01215

Here is a video of the ROMPA WIFI talking cube in action, our son recorded his own voice for the colours:

The only problem i can think of when it comes to the ROMPA WIFI talking cube is that after your child has used it, you have to open the cube up and switch it off, otherwise the cube stays on and drains the battery, to remedy this we use a rechargeable 9v battery to save money on batteries. It would be much better if the cube had some sort of standby mode if it hasn’t been used for a few minutes. I’m not sure if its designed to stay on all the time or if it’s only our cube has this specific problem, its not bad it just takes that extra little bit of effort when switching everything in his sensory room off. and switching the Talking cube on when our son wants to use it again.

Here is a video of the ROMPA WIFI talking cube controlling everything in our son’s sensory room:

As you can see in the video, it can control all of our ROMPA WIFI equipment. We have:

ROMPA Deluxe 8 Colour Wirefree Controller review

In this review we will go over the details and our thoughts on the ROMPA Deluxe 8 Colour Wirefree Controller.

A while ago we bought the ROMPA Deluxe 8 Colour Wirefree Controller after we found out we could wirelessly control the lights and actions on our ROMPA bubble tube and Rompa fibre optics.

We were surprised upon opening the box, we just switched the wifi controller on and it just worked! No setup, no wifi codes …. nothing! It just works! It changes colours on ALL of the ROMPA equipment we have that can be controlled via a wifi controller, its so easy to use, literally anyone can use it, if anyone knows accessibility, it’s ROMPA, they understand that some people have difficulties doing certain things.

The wifi controller has a rechargeable battery, it can be charged using the included USB printer cable and wall plug, handy, as we have loads of USB printer cables hanging around the house in case this one breaks, but so far it hasn’t broken yet, these kind of cables are pretty tough, good call ROMPA.

Speaking of the battery, it seems to last for a very long time, sometimes it lasts weeks as our son has about an hour of sensory play just before bed time on a school day and whenever he wants on the weekends.

There are 8 colour buttons and one action button, the action buttons stops the bubbles in the bubble tube or makes the equipment show random colours instead of fixed ones.

DSC01163

The buttons are big and easy to press and the numbers on them are very large and easy to read, they light up when you press them.

You can set the controller to make different sounds based on the buttons you press, below if a video of the colours setting sound’s:

This is a video of the number setting’s sounds:

This is a video of the musical notes setting’s sounds:

This is a video of the rewards setting’s sounds:

The following video is a video of the ROMPA Deluxe 8 Colour Wirefree Controller controlling all of our ROMPA equipment at the same time:

  • ROMPA Maxi bubble tube. Buy from HERE. Our review is HERE.
  • ROMPA Infinity and Beyond Panel. Buy from HERE. Our review is HERE.
  • ROMPA 1m x 15 strands Jumbo ‘Bamboo’ Fibre Optics with ROMPA light source. Buy from HERE and HERE. Our review is HERE.
  • ROMPA 2m x 100 Strands Super Safe Plastic Fibre Optics with ROMPA light source. Buy from HERE and HERE. Our review is HERE.

The buttons and base are very well made and can take a beating, our son sometimes like to control the buttons with his feet and press the buttons aggressively and it puts up with it all.

This is our second one as we didn’t charge the last one for a while and it glitched and wouldn’t charge, we phoned ROMPA and they sent one out and we received it the very next day so our son wasn’t without one for long, that’s the best customer service we’ve ever experienced, ROMPA know how important sensory equipment is to special needs children and they go out of their way to help, we really appreciate it. It seemed like a one off as there haven’t been any other complaints of this specific glitch.

I would highly recommend this wifi commander, our son loves it, it’s the main thing he uses in his sensory room as it can control all of his sensory equipment at the same time.

You can buy the ROMPA Deluxe 8 Colour Wirefree Controller from the ROMPA website HERE.

ROMPA Fibre optics review

In this review we will go over all the details of both the ROMPA 1m x 15 strands Jumbo ‘Bamboo’ Fibre Optics and the ROMPA 2m x 100 Strands Super Safe Plastic Fibre Optics and the ROMPA Lightsource.

Last year we bought the ROMPA 2m x 100 Strands Super Safe Plastic Fibre Optics and a light source, our son loved it so much we also bought the ROMPA 1m x 15 strands Jumbo ‘Bamboo’ Fibre Optics and a second light source.

DSC01203

DSC01205

When we bought the bamboo fibre optics we also bought a plinth for our sons Rompa maxi bubble tube (bubble tube review here). We put the light sources inside the plinth and fed the fibre optics out of the mouse hole.

The plinth can be bought here. Here are pictures of the plinth and its mouse hole for the fibre optics:

DSC01211

DSC01208

The fibre optics and the light source need to be bought separate, so when they arrive you need to put them together, which is very easy, all you need is a screw driver, you plug the back of the fibre optics into the light source and screw the screw down to hold the fibre optics in place, that’s it!

Just like the bubble tube, the colours of the fibre optics can be changed by using the ROMPA WIFI switches (You can buy the same one as we have here), you dont need to set anything up, they just work together right out of the box. We have a review of the wifi controller here.

Here is a video of the colours:

These fibre optics are bright and the colours are vivid, very easy for even a child with poor eyesight to see. They feel very nice when you play with them, our son loves to run his fingers through them and lie down and cover himself with them.

Unlike many fibre optics, these are very heavy duty, they will put up with being bent, stepped on, pulled and so on with no problems.

These ROMPA light sources and fibre optics are very high quality and I would highly recommend them, they have lasted us nearly a year so far and I’m confident they will lost a lot longer.

If you want the buy the ROMPA 1m x 15 strands Jumbo ‘Bamboo’ Fibre Optics, click HERE.

If you buy both fibre optics at the same time, you can save money by buying the ROMPA 2-Port Light Source, you can find that HERE.
